What is Melange?
To those who haven't had the opportunity to experience it yet, Melange is a unique audio visual experience that aims to introduce Indian Classical Music to audiences of all ethnicities and musical tastes. In particular, it's a great opportunity for music enthusiasts such as yourselves to introduce family and friends to the vast array of delectable choices in the Indian musical genre. Last year, we had the pleasure of presenting Melange to a full house of music enthusiasts, and we are looking forward to seeing it happen once again this year.
What kind of music can I expect?
Every kind you know and love! Dating back to the Vedic period, Indian Classical Music has evolved through a cultural synthesis of several musical streams - predominantly vedic, Persian, and folk. Contemporary music is based on a rich milieu of genres dating as far back as the 12th century, in an expansive canvas comprising today's Northern India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and Afghanistan. From Khayal to Tarana, Thumri to Ghazal, Sufi to Abhang (and more), Melange - as the name suggests - is a hand-picked assortment of the genres that enrich this musical tradition of India.
Who's performing?
Conceived, written and directed by our very own Mahesh Kale, Melange boasts an ensemble cast of accomplished musicians like Pankaj Misra on Sarangi, Salar Nader on Tabla, Vivek Datar on Harmonium and a talented supporting team. Renowned Bollywood actress Ashvini Bhave joins the cast as the Master of Ceremony. Melange is an attempt to recreate a new benchmark for concerts on Indian classical music, not-to-be-missed!
What are folks saying?
"It was a confluence of cultures, moods, and sounds, presented with such an artistic finesse. Kudos to the team that created diametrically opposite moods in a three-hour concert"- The Indian Express
This concert is a part of "A Memorable Musical Journey" celebrating Indian Classical Music. The morning session features "Mysteries of Morning Ragas" by Pt. Vijay Kichlu and Smt. Sanjukta Biswas followed by Melange in the afternoon session. We highly encourage you to attend both!
