East meets West in soulful harmony, and we couldn’t be more jazzed to celebrate this special musical collaboration with you - yes, in person - once again! This year as the Stanford Jazz festival turns 50 and our very own Indian Classical Music and Arts Foundation (ICMA) turns 10, we are excited to celebrate this occasion with you at: Indian Jazz Journey featuring: Mahesh Kale, George Brooks, Utsav Lal & Hindole Majumdar on Saturday, June 25th!
National Award-winning Indian Classical Music star Mahesh Kale, and prolific saxophonist and composer George Brooks bring back their popular collaboration to the Stanford Jazz Festival stage. They are joined this year by two remarkable young musicians - Utsav Lal, the Raga Pianist and Tabla exponent, Hindole Majumdar. Together they bring fresh energy and color to this unforgettable and intricate blend of jazz energy and the Indian ragas and rhythms.
Mahesh Kale is a National Award winning Indian Classical music vocalist and a passionate champion for spreading the sublime joy and beauty of this traditional and ethereal art form among the newer generations. He is always ready to experiment with different genres of music to create something fresh and beautiful while maintaining the sanctity of the original art form. He is also the founder of the Indian Classical Music and Arts Foundation (ICMA).
George Brooks is a prolific and diverse saxophonist and composer, acclaimed for successfully bridging the worlds of jazz and Indian classical music. He is the founder of several Indian fusion music groups.
Mahesh and George bring back their popular collaboration to the Stanford Jazz Festival and are joined this year by two remarkable young musicians - Utsav Lal, the Raga Pianist and Tabla exponent, Hindole Majumdar.
Utsav Lal, often known as the ‘Raga Pianist’ is recognized as one of the rarest of pianists with his innovative handling of Indian Classical Music on a Western instrument. Utsav’s music is acclaimed for its sincerity, depth and powerful intensity.
Hindole Majumdar occupies a commendable position amongst the young tabla players of his generation. He has collaborated with world music percussionists and his work and experiments are critically acclaimed by music enthusiasts all over the globe.
