ICMA Artist Appreciation Awards 2020 and #IsolatedYetTogether mini-concert Series
|
ICMA's #IsolatedYetTogether project consists of the ICMA Artist Appreciation Awards 2020 and #IsolatedYetTogether Mini-Concert Series, to honor and appreciate musicians engaged in the ongoing pursuit of excellence in Indian classical music as a response to the COVID-19 impact on the artist community. The program was inaugurated by Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj on May 23rd, 2020 and is slated to go until August 2020. ICMA features two awardees back-to-back every week in a mini-concert series which is webcast on ICMA's social media channels every Saturday at 9:00 am PDT / 9:30 pm IST.
The ICMA Artist Appreciation Awards 2020 and #IsolatedYetTogether Mini-Concert Series effort is being led by founder of ICMA and world-renowned classical vocalist, Mahesh Kale, with support from fellow legendary artists like the Gundechas, Bombay Jayashree, Shounak Abhisheki, Shubhankar Banerjee, and Selva Ganesh, to nominate, endorse and introduce up and coming musicians onto this new stage. Speaking about the initiative, Kale said, “Music heals and brings people together even in isolation. We want to be instrumental in nurturing human connection and bringing peace and harmony through our concert series. ICMA cares and cultivates art in artists. That’s, essentially, who we are.”
As we absorb the implications of COVID-19 and its global impact on daily life, we are acutely aware that Indian classical artists, like all artists around the world, have been distanced from audience members, fellow artists, and members of their supportive community. Music festivals, concert tours, individual performances, and recordings have been cancelled. This has not only impacted revenue sources for artists, it has also displaced the public spaces where musicians could offer their creativity and connect with their audiences.
ICMA is grateful to Indian classical musicians for their willingness to share their music and perpetuate an art form for audiences craving not just the music but a connection with the artists. The ICMA Artist Appreciation Awards 2020 and #IsolatedYetTogether Mini-Concert Series offer a platform to connect musicians and audiences in a virtual but intimate setting. For the past decade, ICMA has been connecting audiences to musical spectacles in the most intimate way with special attention to artist and audience comfort, knowledge sharing, and high quality music delivery. The virtual, mini-concert series featuring the ICMA Artist Appreciation Awardees strives to offer that same level of quality and attention so that artists and audience members alike can experience an engaging, interactive, and unforgettable musical celebration from home.
In solidarity with Indian classical musicians, ICMA is offering an economic boost to help support the cultural backbone of life in India and around the world to Hindustani and Carnatic classical musicians, instrumentalists, and vocalists alike. Each awardee will receive:
- 25000 INR as an appreciation for their talent and pursuit of excellence in Indian classical music.
- A platform to perform for and connect with a combined San Francisco Bay Area and global audience through a special interactive mini-concert.
ICMA is offering both the artist and the audience a way to adjust to the new reality of streamed live concerts via FaceBook and YouTube to keep and deepen their connection. ICMA features two awardees back-to-back every week. The program started on May 23rd, 2020 and is slated to go until late August 2020. Watch our past events on our YouTube channel.
