June 23, 2019 (Sunday)
Mahesh Kale (vocal), Stanley Jordan (guitar),
George Brooks (saxophone) and Subhankar Banerjee (tabla)
ICMA is excited to collaborate with Stanford Jazz Festival and invites you to join us for Indian Jazz Journey - a unique cross-pollinated, multi-generational jazz with one of India’s most treasured vocalists.
The duo whose Indian-Jazz fusion has swept us away before is back! Get ready for another round of the globally-inspired music we all loved...this time infused with a touch more tradition, and two more stellar artists joining the stage.
We're thrilled to announce that ICMA's very own star vocalist Mahesh Kale will be returning home to the Bay Area to perform once again with jazz virtuoso George Brooks. And we’re even more excited that they’ll be joined this time by the renowned guitarist Stanley Jordan and India-based tabla maestro Pt. Subhankar Banerjee, for an Indian-inspired jazz fusion concert experience.
Co-presented with the Stanford Jazz Festival, Indian Jazz Journey will be a chance to experience the magic that happens when four musical masters - each one deep and dexterous in their own traditions - are drawn together by the power of music to transcend boundaries and inspire imagination.
As many of you know, ICMA's founder, classical vocalist and Indian National Award-winner Mahesh Kale, has deeply touched the hearts of audiences the world-over with his beloved, soaring voice and enthralling performances. Saxophonist George Brooks is known for his colossal tone, rhythmic intrigue, and numerous captivating "East meets West" collaborations. Guitarist Stanley Jordan has been thrilling audiences for over three decades with his innovative strumming technique and musical versatility. Kale, Brooks, and Jordan will be joined on percussion by the scintillating rhythms and tabla mastery of Pt. Subhankar Banerjee.
The four artists coming together in this special show have in common not only their thrilling performance styles and creative brilliance, but also the warmth and sensitivity that their sounds inspire. Indian Jazz Journey promises to be a chance to experience the confluence of this inspiration and the magical music they will create!
